There are always a lot of tips on how to care for your real hair, but what about how to take really good care of your weave or wig?
Below we have created a list of 5 simple things that you can do to Maintain a healthy high quality weave or wig:
- Shampoo- washes the weave every two weeks to ensure that the weave is healthy. Sometimes matting & tangling is because the hair is dirty. Therefore you must gently wash the weave with mild shampoo and Luke warm water. Try using Dove or Baby shampoo.
- Condition – of course after washing you must apply a conditioner to help nourish the hair and make it softer. An excellent conditioner is silicon mix.
- Minimal Heat Usage- the less heat, the better, treat your weave like your own hair try to stay away from the flat irons & blow dryers and when you do utilize these tools make sure to use a heat protector. A lot of people don’t realize that human hair is real hair so we need to treat it like its growing out of our scalp!
- Night care- if you’re wearing a wig simply takes it off and places it on a mannequin head. I have discovered that when you remove your wig at night the hair would last much longer. Now if you have a sew in you may wrap your hair and cover it with a satin scarf or to achieve a beautiful curl pattern use flexi rods to protect your hair at nighttime.
- Moisture – use a light serum or polisher after you’ve washed your hair or when you notice the weave looks dry or feels stuff. The polisher will nourish the hair and help it to regain its luster. Lastly immediately after shampooing and conditioning apply product and let the hair or wig air dry with the product in it. Argan oil, olive oil, and coconut oil all act as great polishers.
